
Many adventures have companion NPCs that join the characters. Read more about 1st level encounters here. Most of the adventures described below do not level the characters quickly enough and are often deadly for 1st level characters.

Adventure writers know this and recommend it. Few DMs run published adventures without modifying them to fit their own style and the desires of their group.
